FIRST STAGE OF NATIONAL SECURITY OFFICE PRECINCT PROJECT UNDERWAY

08 August 2023

SENATOR THE HON KATY GALLAGHER
MINISTER FOR FINANCE
MINISTER FOR WOMEN
MINISTER FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE
SENATOR FOR THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

FIRST STAGE OF NATIONAL SECURITY OFFICE PRECINCT PROJECT UNDERWAY

The Albanese Government is taking a critical step forward in the development of the National Security Office Precinct Project in Canberra.

Work is starting on the John Gorton Campus Car Park Project.  The multi-level car park in the Parliamentary Triangle will provide 1,100 car spaces, electric vehicle charging stations as well as a childcare centre.

The $80.8 million project is being delivered by Barpa and almost 200 jobs will be created during the construction of the car park.

The Minister for Finance, Senator Katy Gallagher, says this project demonstrates the Albanese Government’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure in the National Capital.

“This is just the first step in a major project for Canberra, the National Security Office Precinct, which will create thousands of jobs over the life of the project."

“The Albanese Government values the role that Canberra plays as the National Capital and is investing in key infrastructure to build a better future for our city.”

This is the first major construction to take place in the Parliamentary Triangle since the completion of the National Portrait Gallery in 2008.

Construction on the John Gorton Campus Car Park is expected to be complete in late-2024.
