STATEMENT ON APPOINTMENT AS MINISTER FOR
GOVERNMENT SERVICES

It’s an honour to be asked by the Prime Minister to serve as the Minister for Government Services.

I want to pay tribute to Minister Shorten, who has worked tirelessly in this portfolio since May 2022 and who has made a real and tangible positive difference in the lives of millions of Australians.

I particularly pay tribute to his role in uncovering and publicly prosecuting the Morrison Government’s Robodebt scandal and also ensuring that Services Australia has the resources and capability to provide the best service possible to the Australian people.

I have enjoyed working closely with Mr Shorten on MyGov and digital service delivery to make it easier for Australians to access government services like Medicare and Centrelink.

All Australians rely upon a strong and well-resourced public service that should be there to support them when they need it.

From pensions and payments to Medicare, veterans' pensions to disability support, government services are there to support Australians when they need it most. That’s what I will continue to protect and deliver as the Minister responsible.

I look forward to the opportunity to continue to work with my ministerial colleagues to improve our government services system and to ensure that the significant cuts to government services that the Liberal/National Opposition has promised to deliver do not become a reality.

You can’t cut the public service without cutting the services Australians rely on every single day.
