STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF JENNY WILKINSON AS SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY

I extend my warmest congratulations to Jenny Wilkinson PSM on her history-making appointment as Secretary to the Treasury.

Ms Wilkinson’s appointment comes after almost three years as the Secretary of the Department of Finance, a role in which she has served our nation with distinction.

She has been an invaluable source of advice and policy knowledge to me, a principled leader of the Department of Finance, and a dedicated career public servant.

I am thrilled to see Ms Wilkinson be the first woman appointed to lead the Commonwealth Treasury in its 124-year history.

This appointment not only recognises Ms Wilkinson’s individual talent, skills and expertise, but it also serves as an important reminder for women and girls across the country that all positions in the Australian Public Service – no matter how senior – are roles that women can hold.

I thank Ms Wilkinson for everything she achieved in Finance and for her support and advice to me as Minister for Finance.

Ms Wilkinson played an instrumental role in delivering the Government’s first term agenda, and I look forward to working with her in her new role as Secretary to the Treasury.
