Canberrans have told me for years how frustrating it has been to deal with slow and unreliable internet saying they struggled to work from home, couldn't properly stream their favourite shows or game with a stable and fast connection.
I agree, it's not good enough that in 2025 ACT residents have inferior NBN connections. That's why the Albanese Government is delivering faster and more reliable internet for the ACT.
We will complete the NBN fibre-to-the-node upgrades of all remaining 97,000 premises in the ACT by 2030.
That means 94% of premises in the ACT will have access to ultra-fast gigabit-capable internet in 2030, compared to 47% today.
This ultra-fast gigabit-capable internet will not only make staying in touch with loved ones and friends easier, but it will importantly make access to essential services, education, working from home, streaming and gaming faster and more reliable.
As Senator for the ACT and Minister for Finance, I’m proud to always stand up for Canberrans. Neglect under the previous government meant too many Canberrans were stuck with slow, copper internet. That meant Canberrans had slow-loading, low-resolution Netflix streaming – or websites that wouldn’t load when they needed to do business.
As well as upgrading all of Canberra, Labor has also introduced new laws preventing the NBN from being sold off. We want it in public hands so we can deliver more for you.
You can check your eligibility to upgrade to fibre to the node today via the NBN website – be sure to sign up for updates.
Canberrans deserve fast, reliable and affordable internet, and they'll only get that under an Albanese Labor Government.
