AUDITOR GENERAL SLAMS UNACCOUNTABLE REEF RORTS
The Auditor General has delivered another damning assessment of the Morrison Government’s half a billion dollar Great Barrier Reef Foundation – an organisation that never asked for the funds, only had six full-time staff and had little experience in protecting the Reef.
The ANAO report found there has been "insufficient use of open and competitive approaches for procurements". In fact, more than 70 per cent of procurements examined had no competitive process.
The embattled Foundation also raised less than half a percent of their stated donations target.
Australian taxpayers simply aren't getting value for money from the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
Shockingly, the Foundation did not ensure that bank deeds were always in place to protect the Australian Government's interests for each of the term deposits.
Scott Morrison was the Treasurer when $444 million was handed out to The Great Barrier Reef Foundation in a dodgy deal without a competitive tender in 2018.
Scott Morrison said he took responsibility for the decision, saying it allowed "our return to a balanced budget at the earliest opportunity". This was a sleight of hand from a marketing man full of spin.
Last year, the Auditor General found the government failed to comply with rules designed to ensure transparency - it’s clear that little has improved.
From Sports Rorts to Safer Seats Rorts…
From Jobs for Mates to endless Ministerial scandals…
Australians can't afford more of the Morrison Government’s waste, rorts and mismanagement.
If you want accountability and transparency in government, only Labor is on your side.
