MORRISON-JOYCE GOVERNMENT BACK LABOR’S BUY AUSTRALIAN PLAN

After nine years in office and on the eve of the election, the Morrison-Joyce Government have finally woken up to the fact that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) aren’t getting their fair share of government contracts.

The Federal Government has spent around $190 billion on government contracts over the last three financial years.

Government procurement policy is a major economic lever that could drive the economic recovery from COVID-19 and open opportunities for local businesses.

That’s why a future Albanese Labor Government announced a comprehensive Buy Australian Plan last year.

Five months later, it seems the Morrison-Joyce Government have done a copy/paste job on Labor’s policy.

After nine years in office, the Government has conveniently adopted Labor’s plan to maximise opportunities for Aussie businesses a minute to midnight before the election.

If the Government is canvassing further policy ideas to back Australian business including SMEs, they could rip off Labor’s plan to create a Future Made in Australia Office or establish a Secure Australian Jobs Code.

But like so much with this government, they’re not serious about backing local industry.

They’re only serious about saving their own jobs.
