NATIONAL SECURITY OFFICE PRECINCT SOD TURN TO CELEBRATE CONSTRUCTION COMMENCEMENT

Construction has commenced on the National Security Office Precinct at York Park in Barton, ACT, to accommodate up to 5,000 workers from several national security and other Commonwealth agencies.

The Department of Finance is delivering this major project which will include hospitality and retail amenities to service both the Precinct occupants and wider public.

Minister for Finance, Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher joined the Secretary of Finance, Jenny Wilkinson and Lendlease Managing Director, Construction, Stephanie Graham, to officially turn the sod and mark the commencement of construction.

Lendlease Construction is the managing contractor of the Precinct and has been delivering projects across Australia for over 70 years. The Precinct construction is anticipated to finish in late 2028, with occupation to occur in 2029.

This project is not only significant for the National Intelligence Community, but for supporting Canberra jobs and the construction industry. It is projected over 10,000 workers will pass through the gates across the construction life of the project and is forecasting 210 apprentices at the peak of construction.

To enable the Precinct’s construction and replace the loss of parking at York Park, Finance opened the newly constructed multi-level John Gorton Campus Car Park on 12 February 2025.

Senator Katy Gallagher welcomed this important milestone for the project.

“The opening of the John Gorton Campus Car Park is an important step to enable the Precinct development,” Gallagher said.

“The Precinct will provide fit-for-purpose accommodation for the National Intelligence Community and other Commonwealth agencies, within close proximity to Parliament House.”
