NEW DISCLOSURE RULES FOR THE FUTURE FUND

The Government has released rules that will require the Future Fund Board of Guardians (the Board) to periodically disclose its investment holdings.

The Albanese Labor Government is committed to transparency and accountability and these new rules will ensure there is more information in the public domain in relation to the investments of the Future Fund.

The new reporting regime will ensure that additional information will be available to the public about the investments of the funds managed by the Future Fund Board of Guardians (the Board) which include the Future Fund, Disaster Ready Fund, Future Drought Fund, and the Medical Research Future Fund.

This will include information on the amounts of cash held in financial institutions, the amount and value of shares invested in companies, and the level of investments in properties and infrastructure.

This new level of disclosure is broadly consistent with what is required of superannuation funds as set out in the Corporations Amendment (Portfolio Holdings Disclosure) Regulations 2021.

The first report will cover investments held by or on behalf of the Board as at 31 December 2023, and will be published by the end of the first quarter of 2024.  Reporting will be on a bi-annual basis going forward.
