ESTABLISHMENT OF STAFF SUPPORT SERVICE

The announcement today of an independent, confidential, and dedicated support service for staff across the parliamentary system to report serious workplace incidents is an important first step.

Working conditions and the wellbeing of our staff, both in parliament house and across our electorate offices, should always be a priority.

The announcement of dedicated resources for staff is vital to ensuring staff are supported to voice issues, make complaints, and access required trauma counselling.

Labor has been assured the newly established 1800 APH SPT (1800 274 778) line is an initial response and will remain in place for as long as necessary.

Although vital for our staff, the delivery of additional staff support services should in no way dilute the work of the independent review into Parliament House workplace culture.

Labor will work wherever possible with the Government to ensure the review achieves real change.

We encourage any Labor staff, including former staff, who require support to access the new 1800 APH SPT service.
